2013 Reading Challenges

Since I have a number of reading goals I want to hit this year I figured the best way to do them is to participate in a number of challenges that will help me reach those goals in a fun way. Here I will list the challenges I am participating in and what level I am doing them at.

The GoodReads reading challenge is the first one. Last year I set a goal of 12 book and read over 30. So this year I am reaching higher. I plan to read 50 books this year and perhaps I can even surpass that goal by a good amount.

135/50 books

This challenge is to help me tackle my growing TBR Pile of older books. I had already set a goal at the beginning of the year to stop ignoring those books and read them already but officially participating in this challenge should give me that extra push that I need. I set my level at A Firm Handshake which is 1-10 books though that may increase as time goes on.

17/10 books

2013 A-Z Book Title Challenge

This challenge is quite simple. Reading 26 books which titles begin with the letters of the alphabet. The biggest part of this challenge will be finding book titles that start with the letter X or Z, though the challenge does allow you to use titles that have either of those letters anywhere in the title if needed.

26/26 books
A: Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake
B: Big Shot by Joanna Wayne
C: Corralled by Lorelei James
D: The Defender by Lindsay McKenna
E: Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs
F: The Floating Castle by Craig Mills
G: Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake
H: The Hoard by Alan Ryker
I: In Bed With A Highlander by Maya Banks
J: Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War by Christie Golden
K: Knit Your Own Dog: The Second Litter by Sally Muir & Joanna Osborne
L: The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
M: Misery by Stephen King
N: Naked In Death by J.D. Robb
O: The Other Side of Death by Judith Van Gieson
P: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Q: The Quick And The Dead by Louis L’Amour
R: Rancher’s Deadly Risk by Rachel Lee
S: The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
T: Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects by Christie Golden
U: Unforgiven by B.J. Daniels
V: V For Vendetta by Steve Moore
W: Wolfheart by Richard A. Knaak
X: X Marks The Scot by Victoria Roberts
Y: The Young Black Stallion by Walter Farley
Z: Zombie Galaxy: Outbreak by Scott Reeves

This challenge is hosted by The Dusty Bookshelf group over at GoodReads. The goal is to read those books which have been collecting dust on your shelves while waiting to be read. Since this is a huge problem of mine I figured why not. This challenge is fairly similar to the TBR Pile Challenge but since I signed up to this one first I am going to list it as well. My goal for this challenge is to read 10-15 books.

23/15 books

This challenge will allow me to take more time to enjoy audio books, something that I only recently started listening to. For this challenge I have decided to go with Level 1 – listen to 6 audio books.

22/6 books

My biggest problem with reading so many books if that I keep starting new series and rarely actually finish any of the ones I currently have going. This challenge will force me to stop doing that and finish series that have remained unfinished for quite some time. For this challenge I am going with Level 2 – Complete 2 Series. It sounds easy enough but I know this will be one of the harder challenges to follow through on.

4/2 series
Cardwell Ranch Series (4 books)
Song of Scarabaeus (2 books)
Virgil Cole & Everett Hitch Series (4 books)
King’s Quest Trilogy (3 books)
