What I did Last Week

Read

First up, I listened to Old Man’s War. This is a book I had been intending to read for a while, and figured now was the time to do it. I liked it enough, and may continue on with the series at some point. I’ll be posting a full review of this book in November as a part of SciFi Month.

Then I read Rough Rider. This was the final book in the trilogy I started a month or so ago and it was pretty good. I’ll be posting a full review of this book later in the week.

Watched

I pretty much ignored the TV again last week. We did end up watching Shiloh on Monday, and then for Family Movie Night watched Shiloh Season.

Life

Had Thanksgiving at the beginning of last week, so spent several days eating way too much turkey. Now I don’t want to see or eat turkey until Christmas. Did more work in the garden, now it is 99% ready for winter. It was another week of great weather, considering the time of year, so I once again took full advantage of it, spending lots of time outside and taking Penny for as many walks as I could fit in. Took another round of donations out of the house and now everything that was purged is gone, except for several boxes of books, which I plan to sell. On the weekend we headed to the city to do one final shopping trip for winter stock up and to get things for Christmas. It was a very long day, but we got everything on the list, plus plenty of extras, so now I think it’s safe to say we are ready for winter – well, stuff wise, but I’m certainly not mentally ready for it.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

I just started Gabriel’s Ghost the other day. I haven’t made it very far, so I can’t yet decide whether I will like it or not, but my plan is to finish it this week. I will probably pick up another random SciFi novel from my pile after this as well.

Watching

The PVR is filling up again, thanks to me ignoring it for the last two weeks, so this week I will try my best to watch the backlog of episodes from The Incredible Dr Pol, Alaska The Last Frontier and Heartland.

Life

I’m keeping a close eye on the weather this week, as I still have carrots left in the garden and I don’t want them to die off from cold nights and frost before I have a chance to harvest them. I need to dedicate a bunch of time for NaNoWriMo prep as well as some blog work.

What I did Last Week

Read

I did a little bit of reading last week. First up I read Binti. I actually received this book from a friend last week and read it that same day. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be continuing on with the series. I will also be doing a full review of this book next month.

Then I read Orange The Complete Collection Volume 1 & 2. This series was so darn good! I don’t know if I can even properly review this one because it was just…I don’t know, it was amazing but even that word feels flat. I’ll eventually be posting a review for this one once I can better explain why I loved it.

Watched

I finally watched Alien. This is a movie I have been saying I would watch for YEARS and I finally did it. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, it was alright. I will be doing a full review of this movie next month for SciFi Month. I then watched all of Planet Earth II on Netflix and really enjoyed it. I just wish there were more episodes, but who knows, maybe there will be a third series in the future. Then I watched more of The Incredible Dr. Pol, which has been filling up my PVR a bit. I really enjoy this show and so glad that it’s finally available to me, because for the longest time it wasn’t. For Family Movie Night the boy picked the second Pink Panther movie, A Shot In The Dark. We enjoyed the movie overall, but didn’t find it to be great. To finish the week off, we watched The Lego Ninjago movie, which the boy really enjoyed and hubby and I thought was pretty good.

Life

It was kind of a slow week. I prepped more of the garden for winter. There’s still carrots, horseradish and a few pea plants left, but the rest is gone. It makes me sad to see it empty but I know I will fill it with plants once again next year. I also took more stuff to donation, and sold our second fridge, which we no longer needed, so that cleared up more space in the laundry room. I did some baking on the weekend, making homemade granola cereal, scones and rolls. Other that I enjoyed the decent weather, giving the dog plenty of walks and spending as much time outside as I could.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

No real plans for this. I’m in a bit of a mood reading phase, so I will see what strikes my fancy for the week and read that.

Watching

I will probably end up watching a few SciFi movies that I have on my list to watch and review for SciFi Month, though at this very moment I can’t think of what any of those movies are. I will also be watching more of The Incredible Dr. Pol.

Life

Monday (today) is Thanksgiving so we will be cooking a turkey and later stuffing our faces with all kinds of delicious things. Depending on the weather I might harvest the carrots or I’ll leave them to grow for another week. I may also try to paint our entryway walls this week as long as the house is still warm enough to allow the paint to dry, which is another thing that will depend on the weather.

What I did Last Week

Read

I didn’t have much time for reading this week, but I did finish the audio book of Redshirts. This was a different book, I enjoyed it for the most part but I also found some parts to be annoying. I’ll be posting a full review of this book in November.

Watched

I spent quite a bit of time watching TV this week. On the PVR I watched more episodes of The Incredible Dr. Pol and a few episodes of Battle Castle. I know I also spent several hours staring at the TV but not really paying attention to what I was watching. On Netflix I watched the documentary Ghosts of the Mountain, which was supposed to be about snow leopards, but is actually more of a documentary about the people and challenges of making a documentary about snow leopards, so while okay it wasn’t what I was expecting. For Family Movie Night we watched Speed Racer, which was weird but good. We also watched Office Space this weekend with a couple of people my hubby works with who had never seen it, so that was fun.

Life

Didn’t do a lot due to being sick, so the first half of the week was mostly spent laying on the cough, watching TV and trying really hard to cough up my lungs. I did a bit of work in garden over the weekend, pulling plants out and readying the beds for winter. I also did some baking for orders – which mostly equated to making lots of dog treats.I took another load of donations out of the house because things aren’t selling and I refuse to hold onto this stuff for months just to make a few bucks.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

I’m not 100% sure what I will read this week. I may focus on finishing up Prophecy, or I might pick up a new short book. I think it’s going to be one of those weeks were I base my book choices on my mood.

Watching

I’m running out of things to watch on the PVR and that’s a good thing. It’s finally down to under fifty items, so it won’t be long now before there is nothing on it. I think I will watch more Battle Castle this week, because I have been really enjoying that show.

Life

I have no idea what I need to do this week. I might just take it as an easy week, since I still have a pretty good lingering cough from my cold and I don’t want to push myself too hard until it’s fully gone.

What I did Last Week

Read

I didn’t do too much reading last week. I did get to A Bride’s Story Volume 9. This book arrived on Tuesday and I very eagerly jumped into it. I enjoyed this one much like the previous volumes and can’t wait for the next one to come out, though I know it will be some time before that happens.

Then I read Ranma 1/2 Volume 1. I watched the anime years ago and have wanted to read the manga ever since. I really enjoyed this first volume, and will be continuing on with the series whenever I get my hands on the rest of them – which will hopefully be soon, because I really want to keep reading this one.

Watched

I watched a couple episodes of The Incredible Dr. Pol at the beginning of last week. Other than that, the TV was off limits to me because of family – not that I didn’t want to watch things, but my parents have an issue with sharing the TV and thus no one else can watch anything while they are here.

Life

I don’t even really want to talk about it. My parents came up for a visit and everything just went to shit after that. Then, as the icing on the cake, the boy and I ended up getting bad colds, so our suffering intensified.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

No solid plans here. I have a couple of books that are partially read, and my hope is to finish them this week, but it all depends on how much reading time I have.

Watching

I probably have several things on the PVR from the previous week that I should watch. Other than that, don’t have any real plans for this either.

Life

I’ve got a few things that need to get done around the house this week, though they might not get done right away. It will all depend on how long this cold I’ve been fighting lingers.

What I did Last Week

Read

Nothing. I didn’t have the time nor the desire to read.

Watched

I didn’t watch too much last week. I did finally finish up the last few episodes of River Monsters from the PVR, as well as some episodes of The Incredible Dr Pol and a couple of documentaries I had recorded like a year ago. I also watched Miss Hokusai, which was different but I really enjoyed it. For Family Movie Night we watched Princess of Thieves, which we all enjoyed.

Life

It was a semi-busy week. I got more things done around the house, knocking off a lot of things on my to do list. The weather was pretty nice, though we did get quite a bit of rain in the last half of the week, but I still managed to get outside quite a bit in between the rain and storms. so when I wasn’t working, I was outside taking Penny for lots of walks and working in the garden.  Speaking of the garden, all that work of covering it the previous week due to frost has paid off. I was finally able to harvest a ton of beans and quite a few peas as well. I should be able to get at least one more big harvest before the end of the season. I did have to pull up some plants that has started to die, but overall, 90% of the garden is still there and looking really good. I also took another load of donations out of the house. These were things I had tried to sell in the last two weeks but no one showed any interest in, so off they went. I’m slowing gaining back all the space that is being used to temporarily store the things I am trying to sell. A few more weeks and it will all be gone – hopefully.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

I don’t know how much reading I will get done this week. I have family visiting, which means the chance of sitting down to read is limited. If I sit down to read, someone will inevitably come up and want to talk to me.

Watching

Much like everything else this week, what I have time to watch will be limited. My parents will be here and I swear they drive for two days just to watch TV the entire they are here, but I might be able to watch one of two things if I’m lucky.

Life

All plans I might have had this week have been put on hold due to family visiting. I don’t know what we will do, likely just sit around the house and be uncomfortable.

The History of Bees by Maja Lunde

What I did Last Week

Read

Didn’t do too much reading last week. I did manage to finish reading The History of Bees. To see my thoughts on this one, click the link above.

Then I read Dead Ringer. This was a very quick read, as I get through it in a few hours, and overall I enjoyed it. I will be continuing on with this series soon and will be posting a full review of this book in a couple of weeks.

Watched

I was busy cleaning out my PVR this week once again. I watched more River Monsters, Deadliest Catch, and a whole ton of The Incredible Dr. Pol. For Family Movie Night we ended up watching Thunderbirds, which was alright. We also watched the 1971 version of Black Beauty, which was an okay movie, but was horribly inaccurate to the book.

Life

It was another busy week. Just when I think I’m done doing things around the house, another dozen things pop up on my to-do list. I did manage to finish sorting through everything I had purged last month and took another load to get donated. Then I started to sell a few things here and there, so I’m slowly putting a dent in the pile. Hubby and I also rearranged the shed. We had worked on the shed not to long ago, but we didn’t get to set it up how we wanted it because rain cut us short, so now everything is stored properly and all the winter stuff is easily accessible. I gave my truck a thorough cleaning and vacuuming, I normally do this in the spring as well, but somehow missed that this year, so it was in desperate need of a cleaning. I also had to start covering the garden at night, since most nights have been dipping close to or at freezing, which means uncovering it all come morning, to allow the plants sunshine, and then covering it again at night. It’s a lot of work, but it’s allowing the beans and peas time to produce before they are killed off by the cold and from the looks of it I should be able to pick some later this week. The boy also started school last week and has really been enjoying it and really likes his teacher, so that’s always great to hear.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

I will be reading Prophecy: Child of Earth this week. I started this one last week, but only got about 50 pages in because I was so busy. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this story progresses and getting that much closer to moving on through the series.

Watching

I’ve still got a lot of stuff to watch on the PVR, but I’ve managed to whittle the list down to just under 100 things, so that’s progress. So this week I will be watching even more from the PVR, I’m not sure what else I will watch, will all depend on how much time I have.

Life

I feel like it will be a busy week again. I don’t quite know what items on my to-do list that I will tackle, but it’s still fairly long. The time sensitive stuff will take priority, but the more I can get done now the better.

What I did Last Week

Read

I didn’t read all that much last week. I did read Nimona. I liked this one, but didn’t absolutely love it. I definitely enjoyed what the story was about, and the artwork was fun as well. I will likely check out more books by this author in the future.

Watched

I watched a decent amount of things last week. Working through things on the PVR, I finished up Yukon Men, as well as watching several more episodes of River Monster. I then finished watching InuYasha: The Final act and really enjoyed it. I’m glad that I finally got around to finishing this series and now I really want to read the manga to see the differences and to experience the original full story. For Bad Movie Monday we watched Goosebumps, and I have to say, it was a lot better than we though it would be. I honestly figured it would be horrible, mostly because Jack Black was in it, but it was actually quite good. Then for Family Movie Night we watched Mars Attacks. Hubby and I have seen this movie a few times, but it was the first time the boy watched it.

Life

It was a semi busy week. Monday we headed into the city for a rushed shopping trip, but we managed to get everything we needed. Then Tuesday was a post travel recovery day and putting everything we bought away and getting things ready for the boy to return to school next week. I spent two days baking dog treats to fill orders. Then we got busy stacking up our wood pile for winter, making sure everything in the sheds were organized and easy to reach. On the weekend the fair came to town, however the weather wasn’t all that great, with it raining and storming on Saturday it didn’t even open. On Sunday the weather let up enough for us to go, which made the boy happy because he really wanted to go on the rides. While we didn’t get to enjoy the fair as much as we hoped, since even on Sunday our time was cut short by rain coming in, it was still fun and it was nice to eat some fair food – despite it being unhealthy and super expensive. I was also finally able to get something out of the garden, besides weeds. The snap peas are coming along well and we managed to harvest a small amount of them this week, with more to come soon.

What I Plan To Do This Week

Reading

I will be finishing up The History of Bees this week. I’m over half way through this one but finding it a bit of a struggle to read. It started off good, but my interest in it has waned. I’m close enough to finishing that I will soldier through it.

Then I plan on reading Fruits Basket Volume 2. This will be a refreshing and fun read after finishing up the above book and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story will progress.

Watching

I have a few more episodes of River Monsters to watch on the PVR and then I’ll be done with those. Of course there are plenty of other things for me to watch on the PVR as well, so I’ll be working my way through some of those this week. I will also likely start watching some anime I’ve had on my to-watch list on Netflix for a while now. Not sure which series I will pick, but I need to start watching them before they are removed.

Life

The boy will be back in school starting Wednesday. It’s a short week for them, but he’s excited to go back and see all his friends and meet his new teacher. Beyond getting the boy to school, I don’t really have any solid plans for this week. I think I will just wing it.
